Why Local Businesses Should Consider Cloud-Managed Services

Tim Mercer • Jun 22, 2023

Cloud computing presents a multitude of advantages that can significantly improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness for businesses. Since the pandemic, more small and medium companies have accelerated their migration to the cloud.

With their numerous benefits, cloud computing and cloud managed services in general have become indispensable tools for organizations of all sizes. This technological shift has made businesses’ operations more flexible, agile, cost-efficient, and competitive.

Keep reading to learn how cloud-managed services can transform your business operations, drive growth, and unlock endless possibilities.

What Is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing revolutionizes the way software systems are managed by harnessing the power of the internet. This process grants users remote access to software applications from any connected device without the need to rely on internal networks. This is the reason why cloud computing offers a game-changing solution for businesses seeking to streamline data accessibility and collaboration.

With the surge in demand to share and produce more data online, many companies have been scrambling for more servers to store all the emerging information and meet the growth objectives and demands of day-to-day operations. This is where cloud-managed services come in handy, particularly for small and medium businesses that need more technological infrastructure.

Cloud-managed services provide the expertise and infrastructure required to ensure data storage, smooth and uninterrupted operations, and efficient data management.

You can choose from a variety of cloud-managed services providers on the market when implementing cloud-managed services in your business. However, choosing a qualified and reliable managed service can guarantee the best cloud-managed architecture by following the best practices. IBox Global, for example, offers an in-depth understanding of government policies, processes, and requirements combined with the best cloud-based solutions and skilled Cisco-certified engineers.

What Are the Benefits of Cloud-Managed Services for Local Businesses?

Cloud-managed services offer a string of benefits for local businesses, transforming the way they operate and compete in today's digital landscape. Local businesses can optimize their operations, drive innovation, and position themselves for long-term growth and success. Here are some of the main benefits that cloud-managed services can provide to your business:

Cost Savings

Cloud-managed services offer compelling cost savings for local businesses. This is particularly relevant for upfront hardware and software expenses. The traditional capital investment approach prioritizes capital expenditures, while cloud computing investment tilts towards an operational expense model, scraping upfront costs and scaling operations.

With the cloud provider handling the management, maintenance, and upgrades of the underlying infrastructure, businesses can streamline their IT operations and allocate their resources more efficiently. There are also pay-as-you-go pricing models that allow businesses to pay only for the resources and services they actually utilize.

Increased Productivity and Efficiency

Cloud-managed services give businesses access to advanced collaboration tools and technological infrastructure provided by cloud service providers. Businesses can leverage robust switches, routers, and wireless access points, enabling seamless connectivity and enhancing communication and collaboration among teams.

These technological providers can also simplify management and maintenance processes, freeing up valuable time and resources. With the provider handling updates, patches, and system upgrades, businesses can focus on their core competencies instead of getting caught up in tedious IT tasks.

Enhanced Security

Another reason to opt for cloud-computing services is the additional security protection that comes with cloud-managed service providers. IT professionals offer enhanced security measures that protect local businesses' sensitive data.

These providers specialize in implementing robust security measures, ensuring the utmost protection against cyber threats. They usually monitor cloud accounts for suspicious activity, use digital firewalls to secure sensitive information, and apply regular security patches and updates to prevent data breaches and address other vulnerabilities.

In addition to these services, IT providers also offer disaster recovery and data backup options, providing businesses with reliable strategies to protect their critical information.

In the event of a system failure or data loss, computer-managed services enable swift recovery and minimize the impact on business operations. With the support of cloud service providers' security expertise, local businesses can have peace of mind, knowing that their data is in safe hands.

Shared Information and Data Insights

A business can simplify collaboration and information sharing among its teams by transitioning to cloud-managed solutions. Cloud computing offers a shared environment that allows secure and remote access to data and applications by multiple users. This eliminates concerns about hardware or software compatibility, enabling teams in different locations to collaborate on the same project simultaneously.

Cloud computing also provides a significant advantage for data scientists, empowering them to effortlessly analyze trends within business operations. Some cloud platforms even offer integrated data analytics, enabling the identification of relevant trends in consumer and employee behaviors.

Competitive Advantage

With cloud-managed services, local businesses can move more nimbly than competitors, who need to invest in IT resources to manage big technological infrastructures.

Cloud-managed services also help to streamline local businesses’ operations, reduce costs, and improve efficiency. Without the burden of managing and maintaining complex IT infrastructure, businesses can focus on their core competencies and allocate resources to areas that drive growth and innovation.

Seamless Operational Continuity

Cloud-managed services offer continuity for your business operations, ensuring seamless access and protection of your critical data. With the ability to access the internet and an active cloud computing service, you can effortlessly retrieve any data stored in the cloud.

This provides a valuable safeguard in unforeseen events, such as fire damage to a building, where physical hardware may be compromised. By leveraging the cloud, the risk of losing important data is significantly minimized. Furthermore, cloud computing empowers businesses to maintain consistency across multiple locations, whether local or global.

Today, every individual and organization is vulnerable to cybercrime. Historically, most cybercriminals went after large enterprises expecting big payoffs if they managed to penetrate the network. Over the last few years, this is no longer the case as hackers realized that smaller companies and government agencies are easier to exploit and have fewer resources to protect their networks. In 2019, cybercrimes increased by 17% but the number of records exposed dropped by 64% in the United States. One conclusion we can draw from these statistics is that although cyberattacks continue to increase, hackers are less successful, and organizations are more capable of defending against attacks. The key difference is that many organizations and agencies have adopted a cybersecurity framework to protect their digital assets.

this article by Amy Armstrong first appeared on Advisors Magazine on February 16, 2021 ) Embracing technology is the way to defeat the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. So believes Tim Mercer, co-founder and managing partner of IBOX Global based in Atlanta, Georgia. IBOX specializes in cyber security solutions for government and small to medium businesses. By “embracing technology” Mercer isn’t just suggesting that a company implement the latest innovations to do business better, instead he makes it personal. He encourages today’s worker whose career may be shell-shocked by the pandemic to be open to the possibility that tech may be the first step toward economic solutions. His vision is embedded in the ideal that not only is technology beneficial to everyone but everyone can and should learn how to use technology. Everyone. Not just techie types, but everyone. “Yes, COVID, has caused a lot of economic trouble and it has changed the landscape,” Mercer said. “But rather than focusing on the negative, now is the time for everyone to learn a new skill set within technology. Now is the time to make yourself more valuable.” As a ForbesBooks author and sought-after speaker, Mercer is billed as a mover and shaker in the entrepreneurial world having procured more than $100 million in commercial and government sales for IBOX. Yet, he also knows what it is like to be “down and out.” His childhood was marked with poverty, and his adult life also came close. After studying computer information systems in college, he worked a year for a software company before hanging out his own shingle as a technology consultant. Within four years, he was a millionaire. Five years later, that status began to erode as an investment he made, but did not know much about, went sour and his liquidity dwindled to a mere $1,000 left in his bank account. It wasn’t a pretty situation, Mercer admits, but he called on his determination and grit to move forward – qualities he exemplified throughout his life. A good friend helped him “bootstrap” himself back into the technology industry and by 2016, Mercer gained more than a million dollars of liquid assets. His book, “Bootstrapped Millionaire” and his podcast of the same title document his story and share his encouraging message of not giving up on one’s aspirations. Mercer himself acknowledges that his life story could have been much different. He grew up in rural South Carolina with his childhood spanning the middle of the 1970s and the early 1980s. His hometown was a poor place. It was mentioned in the documentary movie, “Corridor of Shame: The Neglect of South Carolina’s Rural Schools,” a 2005 production by Charles Traynor “Bud” Ferillo which exposed the abysmal condition of predominantly African-American rural schools. “There was not much opportunity where I grew up,” Mercer recalls. “Coming out of high school, my best option for any kind of ‘future’ was to go into the military.” And so he did. Mercer served eight years – four active duty and four reserve duty – as a telecommunications specialist in the United States Army. Not only did those years let him see life outside of poor, rural South Carolina, it also introduced him to what would become his career. A DeVry University recruiter approached Mercer when he was being discharged from the service regarding the university’s technology program in which students could earn a four-year degree in three years. That conversation in the early 1990s came at a fortuitous time, Mercer recalls. “It was a good time,” he said. “It was right around the time when the internet kicked off and I was able to ride that wave of the emerging information technology superhighway.” He recognized the opportunity when he saw it. He hopes others will do the same in response to the economic wreckage left behind by COVID-19. He sees opportunity today amidst all of the lockdown and vaccine uncertainty. And he isn’t completely convinced that the entirety of the nation’s economic problems are directly attributable to COVID. He sees the virus as being a bit of a scapegoat. “Business is using COVID to do what it always wants to do: Get more efficient; get leaner,” he said. “So instead of being resistant to change, get a skill where the new skills are emerging. I don’t take it lightly that a lot of people are losing their jobs. But I am optimistic because in the midst of all of the stuff that is going on, there is still great opportunity being created.” To learn more about Tim Mercer, visit: timtmercer.com and IBOX Global at iboxg.com

Cloud adoption is a business model that continues to disrupt industries around the world. It provides convenience, cost savings, and near-permanent uptimes compared to on-premises infrastructure. Due to the benefits available from cloud migration, analysts expect spending on public cloud infrastructure and services will grow to $500 billion by 2023. Although the flexibility and increased capabilities of cloud infrastructure provide organizations with greater efficiencies, it could also put organizations at risk. Cyberattacks continue to plague organizations of every size and moving your IT infrastructure and services to cloud environments requires a different approach to traditional deployments.
